Yelverton rugby player handed debut for Welsh Exiles Under-16s

A YOUNGSTER from Yelverton made his debut for the Welsh Exiles Under-16 side at the weekend.

Zac Gorton was one of just 24 players from all around England to be selected to play for the representative team in a match against RGC North Wales Under-16s at the Eirias Park Stadium.

The Callington Community College pupil, who plays fly-half or centre, is now part of the Welsh Exiles’ player development programme.

He will attend a training camp with them in Bristol on August 3.

Gorton has come through the junior set-up at Tavistock RFU. He joined them as a nine-year-old and they have helped him develop.

He has also now joined the Plymouth Albion Academy and will attend Plymouth City College from September.

The youngster has been getting additional help from City of Plymouth Athletic Club. He has worked with sprints coach Steve Endacott to improve his speed.
