Plymouth athletes Arnott and Anderson impress on world stage

CITY of Plymouth athletes James Arnott and Simon Anderson both impressed at major global events on Monday.

Youngster Arnott won gold  for Great Britain in the T44/46/47 200m on the opening day of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai.

Running into a strong wind, Arnott clocked 23.31 seconds to seal victory ahead of Bahrain’s Elyas Alyasi (23.73) and fellow GB athlete Morgan Jones (24.13).

Meanwhile, even further east, Anderson finished fourth in the men’s 8k over-50 cross country race at the World Masters’ Athletics Championships in Daegu, Korea.

Anderson clocked 29.31 minutes to finish as first Brit and first fourth year over-50.

New Zealand’s newcomer to the age group, Michael Wray, won the title in 28.31, with Spain’s Jose Ramirez second in 28.36 and Finland’s Jari Hakola third in 29.07.

The World Masters’ men’s distance track events will take place later in the week.
