PILGRIM Flyers youth mountain bike club have received national recognition for the second time within three months.
In December, the Plymouth club won the Grassroots Club of the Year at the Daily Mirror Pride of Sports Awards in London.
Now the Flyers have taken runners-up spot in the HSBC Go Ride Club of the Year.
Go Ride clubs are the first step that young riders take in the world of cycling. It is in these clubs that they learn all the skills that they will use for the rest of their cycling lives.
More than 60 per cent of the current GB cycling team started their careers in Go Ride clubs.
There are more than 300 Go Ride clubs in the UK. Although the Pilgrim Flyers are a comparatively small club, they have been recognised for the innovative methods they have used, such as winter training sessions in a multi-storey car park.
Many of their young riders will be in action later this month at the second Fully Sussed Soggy Bottom Series event at Newnham Park on February 26.
