TAVISTOCK’S Tess Masselink and City of Plymouth’s Poppy Northcott were among the medal winners at the South West Club and County Cross Country Championships at Exeter on Sunday.
Masselink, representing Cornwall, took second in the under-20 women’s race held at Haldon racecourse behind Dorset athlete Serena O’Connor.
Northcott, running in the non-county championship under-11 girls’ race, won bronze medal.
She actually clocked the same time as second-placed Jemima Pratt, but the North Cornwall athlete just crossed the line first. The race was won by Wells’ Skye Fisher, with Tavistock athletes Matilda Riggott and Ella Shaw ninth and 10th.
City of Plymouth’s Hannah Blair finished fifth in the senior women’s race. She was Devon’s first runner home in a time of 22.20 minutes.
Her club colleague Jack Williams, competing in Cornwall colours, finished sixth in the under-20 men’s race in 30.15 minutes, with Erme Valley Harriers’ Owen Parkin seventh and first Devon athlete in 30.38.
Fellow Erme Valley runner Nathan Brown also claimed a top 10 finish, with City of Plymouth’s one place behind him in 11th.
There were also top 10 finishes for Tavistock athletes Euan Botham in the under-13 boys’ race, Sophie Main in the under-13 girls’ event and Natasha Farrington in the under-15 girls’, while team-mate Oliver Smart was just outside the top 10 in the under-15 boys, finishing 11th.
