PLYMOUTH’S Victoria Weir has made an impressive start to her athletics career at the University of Birmingham.
The English Schools’ steeplechase champion has claimed two major victories already this month.
Weir helped the University of Birmingham athletics team take gold in the junior women’s race at the National Relays in Mansfield.
The former Plymstock School pupil ran a storming second leg to put her team in pole position for victory.
Weir finished with the second fastest time of the day. Only Great Britain international and national cross country champion Harriet Knowles-Jones ran quicker – and she ran the first leg.
The 18-year-old City of Plymouth runner then backed that up by claiming victory in the senior women’s race at the Midlands Women’s Cross Country League race at Leamington Spa at the weekend.
Weir sprinted away from Birchfield’s Sarah McDonald to take the win.
