THE popular Tavy 7 race has sold out more than a week before the event, organisers have confirmed.

The scenic run on Dartmoor, which has been going for 30 years, takes place next Sunday (October 23) and starts and finishes at Plaster Down.

The limit of runners was 500 and all those places have now been taken.

Pete Waumsley Tavy 7Race director Martin Exley-Deane said: “Last year we introduced our pledge to affordable running with entry fees starting at just £7. It’s proved to be a strong draw and the entries have been flying in.

“Not only that, but we have looked after the fast athletes at the front end of the race too. There are cash prizes of £60 for first place and a potential £50 bonus for a course record and great category prizes as well.

“We are sure all runners are going to have a great time and enjoy fantastic value for money.”

Last year’s winner was Tamar Trotters’ Pete Waumsley (pictured). He is among the entries for this year’s race, along with the likes of Tavistock’s Jim Cole and Torbay’s Pete Monaghan.

The run, which is organised by Tavistock AC and again sponsored by Ocean BMW and Mansbridge Balment, starts at 11am.

There is also a fun run, which starts at 11.05am, and places for that are still available.
