Bee moves up to fourth in UK hurdles rankings with new PB at South West League Cup

Emily beeCITY of Plymouth’s Emily Bee set a new personal best in the 75m hurdles at the South West League Cup at Exeter Arena on Sunday.

The 14-year-old clocked an impressive 11.20 seconds to move up to fourth in the UK under-15 girls’ rankings.

Bee also came second in the long jump with a leap of 5.08 metres as the Armada Athletics Network finished third overall in cup match behind Yeovil Olympiads and Exeter Harriers.

Erme Valley’s Lewis Greenwood also enjoyed under-15 hurdles and long jump success. He ran 14.21 to take the 80m boys’ hurdles win and the leapt a PB of 4.75m to seal victory the long jump.

City of Plymouth’s Molly Mather ran 12.93 seconds to claim second in the under-17 girls’ 80m hurdles.

Tavistock’s Oliver Woodmason set a new PB of 4:53.15 to win the under-13 boys’ 1,500m. His team-mate Clarissa Nicholls ran 5:03.54 to triumph in the under-15 girls’ race over the same distance.

Plymouth Harriers’ John Cooper was another athlete to achieve a new best. He ran 9:18.43 to win the 3,000m, with City of Plymouth’s Tom Blackford clocking 9:58.88 to claim third in the under-20 race.

Blackford also took second in the under-20 2,000m steeplechase, while his club colleague Mat Bradley won the men’s steeplechase race in 6:28.48.

There was high jump success for Tavistock’s Aimee Leigh-Clowes, who won the women’s event in 1.63m, while club colleague Luke Cressey set a new PB of 1.85m to finish third in the under-17 boys’ high jump.

City of Plymouth’s Matthew Gilbert took victory the men’s high jump with 1.74m, while Erme Valley’s Bronwyn Harris sealed the under-13 girls’ title with 1.35m.

Erme Valley’s Nathan Brown had a busy day. He took second in the under-20 200m in 23.86, second in the 400m in 53.05 and second in the 800m in 2:04.12.

Dean Smith claimed second in the senior men’s 400m in 52.84, while City of Plymouth’s Jenna Bierton set a new PB of 62.32 on her way to silver in the women’s 400m.

Tavistock’s Ben Pitts won the under-13 boys’ 200m in 28.14, while Erme Valley’s Paige Johnson set a new 100m PB of 13.59 seconds to claim third in the under-13 girls’ 100m.

City of Plymouth’s Summer Dawe also had a successful day. She finished second in the under-13 200m in 29.36 seconds before claiming a new long jump PB of 4.44m to claim third.

DoaaMeanwhile, Plymouth’s Doaa Shayea smashed her PB for 100m wheelchair event at the CAU Inter-County/England Senior Championships in Bedford at the weekend.

Shayea clocked 19.27 seconds to finish second and first T54/T56 athlete. The 18-year-old’s previous best had been 19.65 seconds. She has moved up to fifth in the UK T54 women’s rankings.
