Plymouth Tri Club’s Saunders retains Palm Tree Sprint title

Fin Saunders (76) Armada 5kPLYMOUTH’S Fin Saunders retained the Palm Tree Sprint Triathlon title on Sunday in south Devon.

The city athlete completed the 750-metre open water swim, 24k bike ride and 6km run around Goodrington in one hour, 33 minutes and 13.1 seconds. That was nearly three minutes quicker than the time he won in last year.

Saunders, a member of Plymouth Tri Club, clocked 17:34.4 minutes for the swim, 49:03.5 for the bike ride and 25:43.4 for the run.

He was more than four minutes in front of second-placed athlete Brad Pontin, who came home in one hour 37 minutes and 44.9 seconds. Third was Jake Smith in 1:37.56.
