PLYMOUTH Leander’s Sam Dailley dominated the 15 year-old age group at the British Summer Swimming Championships in Sheffield.
The Plymouth College schoolboy won four individual gold medals and a bronze, plus a relay silver.
His first gold came in the 100m freestyle event, where he clocked 53.24 seconds. Dailley had earlier won bronze in the 50m backstroke in 27.32.
He then claimed the 100m butterfly crown in 56.18 seconds, the 50m freestyle title in 24.40 seconds and the 50m butterfly gold in 25.51.
Then in the penultimate event of the six-day championships at Ponds Forge, he helped Leander to silver in the 4x100m 14/16 year-old medley relay, along with Charlie Boden, Morgan Newman and Oscar Brain.
Dailley’s Leander team-mate Laura Stephens also enjoyed a highly successful week, coming away with five medals.
She won gold in the 17/18 year-old 100m butterfly in 59.92 seconds, claimed silvers in the 50m butterfly in 27.65 and 200m butterfly in 2:11.28, while helping Leander to silver in the 17 and over 4x100m freestyle relay and bronze in the 4x200m relay.
There were three gold medals and a silver for Leander’s Estonian star Kregor Zirk. He won the 17/18 year-old age group 100m butterfly in 54.55 seconds, then won the 50m event in 24.62 seconds, took silver in the 4x100m freestyle relay before playing his part in Leander’s 4x100m medley 17 and over title win.
Another member of Leander’s medal winning men’s relay teams, Tom Fannon, also won individual gold in the 17/18 years 50m freestyle in 22.55 seconds.
Fellow Plymouth swimmer Boden took bronze in the 15 year-old age group 100m backstroke event in 59.00.
There was also plenty of success at the championships for Mount Kelly.
Kaylee Dekker won gold in the 13/14 years’ 100m freestyle in 57.99 seconds and also silver in the 100m butterfly in 1:03.37.
Oliver Taverner was another gold medallist for Mount Kelly. He triumphed in the 15 years’ 100m breaststroke in 1:05.04.
His team-mate Michael Jones claimed silver in the men’s MC 400m freestyle in 4:49.49, while Lewis Smart took bronze in the 15 year-old age group 50m breaststroke in 30.76 seconds.
Mount Kelly also took two relay bronze medals on the final day of competition courtesy of their 4x100m women’s medley team and 14/15 year-old men’s 4x100m medley quartet.
