PLYMOUTH Leander’s Ben Proud won a second bronze medal on the final day of the European Swimming Championships in London.
Double Commonwealth Games champion Proud had finished third in the 50m butterfly race earlier in the competition before added bronze in the 50m freestyle event on Sunday evening.
The 21-year-old University of St Mark and St John student clocked 21.85 seconds to finish behind Olympic and world champion Florent Manaudou from France, who won in 21.73, and Ukraine’s Andriy Govorov, who took second in 21.79 seconds.
Proud is currently in the middle of heavy training for his first Olympic Games this summer and so was more than happy with his medals and times this week in London.
“I’m delighted with the way it has gone,” said Proud. “I can’t complain about two medals.”
