Maunder to feature for Albion in development match with Exmouth

Jack MaunderPLYMOUTH Albion will get their first chance to have a look at dual-registered Exeter Chiefs scrum-half Jack Maunder in action on Tuesday evening when they take on Exmouth in a development match at the Imperial Recreation Ground (7.30pm).

Maunder has been unavailable for Albion so far due to England Under-18 and Under-20 commitments and the Premiership Sevens Series.

But he has been training with the National One club regularly for the last two weeks and will form an all-teenage half-back pairing with Billy Searle at Exmouth.

“Jack’s not been available that much due to other commitments but he’s trained the last two weeks,” said Albion’s director of rugby Graham Dawe.

“He’s a very accomplished scrum-half even for his age. This game is a good opportunity for him and the other players to put down a benchmark.”

Albion have named a young team, which includes Lydney full-back Eamon Rees.

However, Albion do have experience at flanker where Andy Chesters and Cameron Thompson line-up. Both have featured in the first team this season.

Jon Dawe, who like Thompson featured against Esher on Saturday, also starts.

“These fixtures are important for the development of players and the club,” said Albion’s director of rugby Graham Dawe. “It is a young squad but we’ve got players looking to step up into the first team.”

He added: “A developed side is about creating that culture and responsibility that goes with representing the club.”

Shek Sherrif starts in the second-row for Albion. He recently scored two tries against Exmouth in the Devon Cup for Newton Abbot, where he is on loan.

Exmouth include former Cornish Pirates and Launceston winger Richard Bright, who is making his comeback from injury, in their side.

The Cockles are captained by former colt Lloyd Watkins.
