JAKE MURPHY says it is a ‘great honour’ to be selected to captain Plymouth Albion in their opening National One match against Richmond on Saturday.
The former Launceston back will lead Graham Dawe’s new-look Albion side out in front of their own fans at Brickfields.
“It’s a great honour to be asked to captain Plymouth for the first game by Graham,” said Murphy.
“It came as a bit of a shock, but it was definitely a nice surprise.”
He added: “I’ve done it (captain a side) occasionally before, but I have always seen myself as a leader within a team, whether that be as captain or not. Hopefully, it will be something I cope with.”
Murphy is confident he will get plenty of support from some of Albion’s other experienced players.
“There’s a spine within the team of experienced players that help each other out,” he said. “Come game time I will definitely be looking towards them for support and input.”
