Leander star Proud eases through 50m freestyle heats in Kazan

PLYMOUTH Leander swimmer Ben Proud eased through the heats of the 50m freestyle event at the World Championships in Kazan.

The Commonwealth Games champion, who reached the final of the 50m butterfly earlier in the week, swam 22.13 seconds for the ‘splash and dash’ on Friday morning.

That ranked him seventh overall out of the 113 competitors who took part in the heats.

Proud will swim in the semi-finals on Friday evening, with the final taking place on Saturday evening.
