Plymouth Argaum suffer pre-season blow as first opponents cancel

ArgaumPLYMOUTH Argaum have been left without a pre-season match this weekend.

The Bickleigh Down side were due to travel to Wyvern, but the Taunton-based club cancelled the fixture on Thursday morning.

“They share their ground with a cricket club, who have a game,” said Argaum’s director of rugby Dave Sansom. “They were looking for an alternative ground, but they weren’t able to find one and cancelled this morning.”

Argaum, who won Devon One last season, had arranged a fixture for this Saturday as they wanted to keep next weekend free as club chairman Nick Hancock is getting married.

However, Sansom admits he is now looking to find a fixture next week so that his team play at least three matches before they begin life in the Cornwall/Devon League.

“We didn’t really want to play next weekend, but we are going to have to try and organise one now,” said Sansom. “I have got some feelers out already.”

Currently Argaum do have two more pre-season games pencilled in – away at Western Counties West new boys Saltash on August 22 and at home to OPMs on August 29.

Argaum are set to rely heavily on their team that has claimed back-to-back promotions. However, Sansom admits there could yet be ‘three or four’ new signings.
