IVYBRIDGE Rugby Club got their season underway by finishing second in a four-team 10s tournament at Polson Bridge on Thursday night.
The newly-promoted National Three South West side won two of their three matches, only losing by one try to eventually winners and hosts Launceston.
National Two South outfit Launceston entered two teams – CAB Blacks and CAB Whites – with Gareth Evans’ Okehampton the other side taking part.
Okes started well and drew 10-10 with CAB Blacks before Ivybridge ran in three unanswered tries to beat CAB Whites 15-0.
Ivybridge, though, had to play CAB Blacks straight after and in a tight contest the hosts, who included former Albion hooker Jamie Salter among their side, claimed a 17-10 victory.
Okehampton then ran out 15-0 winners against struggling CAB Whites, who lost by the same score to their team-mates.
Ivybridge ended the evening with a three try to one win against Okehampton.
Launceston included former Albion prop Luke Chapman in their squad. He has signed for the National Two South side, along with another former Plymouth prop, Rob Dugard.
Meanwhile, Ivybridge will continue their preparations for life in level five this Saturday when they take on a Fijian XV at Cross-in-Hand as part of their fun day.
