Robyn Birch finishes as top European in World University Games final

Robyn BirchPLYMOUTH Diving’s Robyn Birch continued her good season with a fifth-placed finish in the women’s platform event at the World University Games in South Korea.

University of St Mark and St John student Birch eased through the preliminaries in Gwangju with 312.70 points. She struggled a little bit in the semi-final, scoring 269.20.

However, she produced her best performance of the day in the final to score 315.60 and finish as the top European.

China’s Ying Wang won the event with 345.00 points, ahead of her team-mate Han Wang with 338.20 and Japan’s Mai Nakagawa with 330.05.

Birch’s fifth-placed finish followed on from her synchro medal winning display at the European Championships and the FINA Canada Cup Grand Prix.
