A JOINT athletics team from the region begin life in Division Two West of the Southern League on Saturday when they travel to Andover.
The team made up of athletes from City of Plymouth AC, Erme Valley Harriers and Tavistock AC won Division Three South last year to earn promotion to the higher division.
This year they will be battling against 15 other clubs from as far afield as Wycombe and the London area in the five-meet competition.
Each meet they will take on different sides in the division. On Saturday they will face Andover & Overton, Oxford City and Epsom & Ewell Harriers
However, the Plymouth team will not be as strong as it can be with a number of their talented younger athletes competing in the London Mini Marathon on Sunday or preparing for exams.
“We are a bit light on the ground this weekend,” admitted City of Plymouth AC head coach Steve Endacott. “I don’t think we’ll have a true indication of where we stand in this division until the second meet.”
That second meet will take place at Brickfields on May 30, when Newbury, Yeovil Olympiads and Radley AC visit.
