Plymouth divers Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow bid for Dubai success

TCSB.jpgPLYMOUTH divers Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow return to World Series action on Thursday when they take part in the women’s platform synchro event in Dubai.

The pair finished fifth in the opening leg of the series last Friday in Beijing behind China’s Ruolin Chen and Huixia Liu, Malaysia’s Yee Mun Leong and Jun Hoong Cheong, Canada’s Roseline Filion and Meaghan Benfeito and Australia’s Melissa Wu and Lara Tarvi.

Commonwealth Games silver medallists Couch and Barrow will be up against the same competition as in China but they will be hoping to improve on their score of 289.62 and claim a top three spot.

The duo will then compete in the individual event on Saturday. Unlike in Bejiing, Couch and Barrow are drawn in separate semi-finals.

Couch will face competition from China’s Chen, Malaysia’s Pandelela Rinong, Australia’s Tarvit and Ukraine’s Yulia Prokopchuk, while Barrow will be up against Canadian’s Filion and Benfeito, Australian Wu, China’s Liu and Mexico’s Alejandra Orozco for a top three spot.

Plymouth-born Tom Daley will also compete in the individual platform on Saturday. He has managed to avoid world champion Bo Qiu and Olympic gold medallist David Boudia in the semi-finals, although he will be up against China’s new star Jian Yang and Germany’s Sascha Klein.
