Plymouth Argyle move into a play-off spot thanks to win over Northampton

PLYMOUTH Argyle moved back into a League Two promotion play-off spot with a 2-0 home win over Northampton Town.

The Pilgrims leapfrogged above Newport County into seventh place thanks to their victory which came courtesy of goals from Anthony O’Connor and in-form Lewis Alessandra.

The win was much-needed for John Sheridan’s side after back-to-back defeats against Stevenage and Bury.

O’Connor fired Argyle in front in the 28th minute with a shot from 18 yards out.

But the Greens had to wait until the 86th minute to seal the match when Alessandra rounded Northampton goalkeeper Matt Duke to score his fourth goal in seven matches.
