GALLERY: Marine Academy Plymouth score a late penalty to earn a draw with Plymouth Argyle’s new-look side

MARINE Academy Plymouth and Plymouth Argyle played out a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Ivybridge as both clubs continue their preparations for the new FA Women’s National League season.

After a disrupted summer, which saw them lose their manager and their entire team, Southern Premier Division outfit Argyle fielded a young new-look side with no shirt numbers at Erme Valley, but they took the lead in the 30th minute when Farrah Ambrose scored following a corner.

But in a game, where clear-cut chances were few and far between, Division One South West side Marine Academy levelled in the closing stages when they were awarded a penalty after Kelsey Blight was brought down after a good run into the box.

Marine captain Samantha Drewery stepped up to take the spot-kick and she made no mistake firing the ball into the right side of the net.

Both clubs will continue their warm-up campaigns next weekend, with Marine Academy visiting Exeter City on Friday evening and Argyle hosting Swansea City on Sunday afternoon.
