PLYMOUTH Argyle enjoyed a good five days by claiming two back-to-back 2-0 victories in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.
On Wednesday evening in front a massive crowd of 6,500 people, who had braved torrential rain for a celebration of women’s sport, they beat Devon rivals Exeter City 2-0 at Home Park.
Phoebe Hampson scored a spectacular long-range strike from the right to put Argyle ahead on the 65th minute before Tianna Teisar sealed the match in injury-time after breaking through the Grecians defence and beating the goalkeeper.
The Pilgrims then followed that up by overcoming AFC Wimbledon 2-0 away on Sunday.
Eleanor Noble fired them ahead in the 37th minute with a long-range effort, before Tamara Wilcock hit a powerful strike five minutes after half-time.
The two wins keep Argyle second and in a prime position should leaders Watford or third-placed Bournemouth, who have games in hand, slip up.
In the FA Women’s National League Division One South West, Marine Academy Plymouth pulled further clear from the relegation zone with a 2-0 away win at Worthing.
Lucy Solloway scored both their goals, netting one in each half.
The win moves them up to eighth in the table and they have three games in hand on most of their rivals.
South West Premier Division side Saltash United had a break from league action as they took on lower league St Dennis in the quarter-finals of the Cornwall Cup at Kimberley Stadium.
The Ashes won 4-0, scoring two goals in each half against their spirited opponents.
Caption Beth Prouse put them ahead in the 26th minute when she fired in a long-range effort after the ball had fallen to her from a goal kick.
And just before half-time, Taylor Ford hit a stunning effort into the top corner to give her team a 2-0 lead at the break.
The Ashes had to wait until the final 10 minutes to score their other goals, with Liv Lennox twice firing in at the far post.
In the Devon Senior Cup, Plymouth True Blues progressed by beating Plainmoor 3-2, with Lily Daw and Angel Goucher firing in their goals.
