PLYMOUTH’S Euan McCabe has been named in Great Britain’s diving squad for this year’s World Cup series.
He is one of eight divers selected for the competition, which will see the opening two legs held in Montreal, Canada, and Zapopan, Mexico, in the next three weeks.
Athletes competing in the first two legs will have a chance to qualify for the Super Final, which will be held in Beijing, China, at the start of May.
McCabe and fellow platform diver Ben Cutmore will be making their World Cup debuts. They will both compete in the individual event and team up in the synchro competition.
They are joined in the GB squad by Jack Laugher, Anthony Harding, Yasmin Harper, Scarlett Mew Jensen and Ross Haslam.
The Montreal leg will take place between February 26 and March 1, with the event in Zapopan held between March 5 and March 8.
McCabe, who competed at last year’s World Championships, secured his World Cup place by winning two gold medals at Aquatics GB Diving International meeting in Sheffield at the start of this month.
Meanwhile, the next crop of international hopefuls were in action at the weekend at the annual Armada Cup event at the Life Centre.
The long-standing four-day event is one of the biggest on the diving calendar and has been a pathway competition for a host of Olympians over the years.
Young divers from all around the UK and from Dubai took part in the event hosted by Plymouth Diving.
Great Britain junior international Amelie Underwood picked up two golds and a silver in the girls’ elite A category. She won the one-metre event and took silver in the three-metre competition and then teamed up with Scarlett Colbourne to win the A/B synchro final.
Colbourne won two golds and a bronze. As well as the synchro title she won with Underwood, she also triumphed in the elite girls’ A platform event and took bronze in the springboard competition.
Plymouth showed their strength in the elite A girls’ section with Lexi Davies winning the three-metre event and Evie Royal taking bronze behind Underwood. Davies also took silver in the one-metre event and took second in the synchro three-metre with team-mate Rose McCabe.
In the elite boys’ B section, Harry Westbury claimed two golds and a silver. He won three three-metre and took second in the one-metre before teaming up with Sheffield’s Lucas Bishop to take top honours in the A/B springboard synchro. Louie McCabe and Oscar Westbury were second in the synchro.
In the elite girls’ B category, Isla Applin claimed bronze medals in two springboard competitions.
Will Heath enjoyed plenty of success in the group A boys’ section. He claimed gold medals in the three-metre and platform events and took silver in the one-metre.
Charlie Clinick was another multi-medallist for Plymouth. He won the group boys’ B one-metre and took bronze medals in the three-metre and platform.
There were also gold medals for Noah Underwood and Emily Williams. Underwood won the elite boys’ A platform competition, while Williams took victory in the group C girls’ one-metre event.
Among the other divers securing individual medals were Eva Lang (silver, group A girls’ platform), Libby Ritchie (silver, group C girls’ three-metre), Poppy Jones (bronze, group A girls’ three-metre) and Aria Cole (bronze, group D girls’ three-metre).
