City of Plymouth hurdler Dingley heads to America after his debut at UK Athletics Championships

CITY of Plymouth hurdler Adam Dingley will head out to America on a sport scholarship this week, fresh from making his debut at the outdoor UK Championships in Birmingham.

Dingley competed in the men’s 110m hurdles at last weekend’s event, which was doubling as the British trials for the World Championship. It was the first time he had competed outside over the senior hurdles height.

And he will have been encouraged by his performance, finishing fifth in his heat and just missing out on reaching the final.

It followed on from him medalling at the English Schools’ and setting a new under-20 PB at the English Athletics Championships.

He will now fly out to the USA on Wednesday to try and progress his career further at Iowa Western College, who have offered him an athletic scholarship.

Meanwhile, the England U17 & U15 Championships are currently taking place in Birmingham.

On the opening night, Tavistock’s Freddie Whybrow finished ninth in a tactical under-17 boys’ 1,500m in 4:23.02, while his team-mate Caleb Gifford-Groves booked his place in the final of the under-17 800m with a 1:58.63 heat run.

City of Plymouth’s Annabelle Fasuba will be defending her under-15 girls’ 100m title and also looking for success in the 200m.
