MARINE Academy Plymouth claimed the Devon Women’s Premier Cup in emphatic style on Friday night at Coach Road by beating lower league Plympton 11-0.
The South West Premier Division leaders went in front after just 20 seconds and never looked back.
Plympton, who are top of South West Division One South, battled hard but Marine Academy just had too many threats all over the field.
Carmen Morison bagged four of Marine’s goals, with Kelsey Blight claiming a hat-trick. Clara Martin chipped in with two, while Sam Drewery and Maisie Powell-Rider also got on the scoresheet.
Blight opened the scoring almost straight from kick-off when Beth Overton played the ball through to her down the right and she fired in low and hard after just 20 seconds.
And Marine found themselves 4-0 up after just 18 minutes.
Morison got their second, and her first, when she headed in from a corner in the eighth minute.
Then Martin, who impressed in midfield, scored two long-range efforts within the space of five minutes.
Plympton did regroup and stopped the onslaught for a while, but Marine scored two further goals towards the end of the first half, both courtesy of Morison.
Plympton did start the second period well and forced a great save from the Marine goalkeeper, but they could not keep their pressure up.
And in the 57th minute, Marine captain Drewery made it 7-0 when she headed in a good cross from the right by Blight, who had made a great run down the wing.
Substitute Powell-Rider was next on the scoresheet when she fired in at the far post five minutes later.
The goal-scoring eased for a spell after that, but Marine, like they had done in the first half, finished strongly.
Blight smashed the woodwork with a great freekick in the 76st minute before she did finally get her second of the night.
And three minutes later she completed her hat-trick when she fired in from long-range after Drewery had done well to lay the ball back to her.
The last word of the match went to Morison who beat a defender and the goalkeeper to claim her fourth and also bag the player of the match award.
