SALTASH United have put themselves in pole position for the South West Women’s League Division One South title after they came from behind to beat Weymouth 2-1 away on Sunday.
The Ashes have moved joint top of the league, level on points with long-time leaders Plympton, who slipped up against Weston-super-Mare at the weekend.
Saltash do have a game in hand on Plympton and the teams still have to play each other again.
The Ashes were trailing 1-0 at half-time in Dorset, but they turned it around after the interval thanks to goals from Morgan Friend and Nicola Symons.
Plympton, who had drawn with Saltash the week before, suffered only their second defeat of the season when they went down 2-1 at home to Weston-super-Mare. Sam Metters scored their only goal at Bull Point.
In the Devon League South & West Division, Horrabridge Rangers continued their push for the title with an 8-1 away victory at Hunters District.
In-form SB Oak Villa have moved up to third after they beat their neighbours Signal Box 3-0 at Manadon on Sunday.
Kiri Pethick had fired Oak Villa ahead just before half-time, and she doubled their lead early in the second half before Natalie Shekhdar also found the net.
Elsewhere in that division, Angel Goucher scored a hat-trick as Lakeside Athletic beat Shaldon Villa 4-2 at the Parkway. Abigail Eaton scored Lakeside’s other goal.
In the Cornwall Women’s League Premier Division, Rachel Finch bagged six goals as Saltash Borough overcame Redruth United 11-0 at Saltmill. Abby Shapland (2), Harriet Howell, Jodie Randall and Ella Stevens were also on target for Borough, who had only been 3-0 up at half-time.
Plymouth Argyle and Marine Academy Plymouth were not in action at the weekend.
The Pilgrims did play in the Devon Women’s Challenge Cup final against Exeter City in mid-week – a match they lost 6-0. Sarah Stacey (3), Beth Everson, Ishbel Zuuromd and Zoe Watkins scored for Exeter.
Argyle do have a vital FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division league clash against AFC Wimbledon at Home Park on Sunday.
