CHARLOTTE Whitmore scored a last-gasp goal to secure Plymouth Argyle a 2-1 away win at AFC Wimbledon on Sunday and boost their hopes of staying in the FA National League Southern Premier Division.
Whitmore had pulled Argyle level in the first half after Dior Knorr had given sixth-placed Wimbledon the lead.
In the second half, the Pilgrims had lots of pressure, but it just did not look like they goal they needed was going to come.
But in the sixth minute of added-on time, the ball came to Whitmore, who beat a defender and rolled the ball into the corner of the net, much to the delight of her team-mates.
The win has moved Argyle out of the relegation zone and gives them a great chance of staying up.
Marine Academy Plymouth continue to set the pace at the top of the South West Women’s League Premier Division. They beat mid-table AEK Boco 2-0 away on Sunday.
Kelsey Blight gave them the lead before Milly Klinkenberg sealed the victory with a header.
In South West Division One South, Saltash United suffered their first league defeat of the season as they were beaten 3-0 away at second-placed Yeovil Town.
The Ashes had been forced to travel with a depleted squad due to injuries and they finished the game with 10 players. Becky Miles, Abbie Carslake and Zara Hunt scored for Yeovil Town.
Leaders Plympton were without a match in that league at the weekend.
The only game in the Devon League Division One South & West, saw Hunters District lose 5-1 away at Paignton Villa.
