ATHLETICS: McEwing and Kelly among the prizes at Bideford 10, while Robinson takes second at Cornish Marathon

ERME Valley Harriers’ Alison McEwing and Tavistock AC’s Nikki Kelly both finished in the top three women at the Bideford 10 on Sunday.

McEwing took runners-up spot to Truro’s Katie Knowles and also claimed the first F35 prize.

The Erme Valley Harrier clocked a time of 60.58 minutes for the 10-mile race.

Kelly was third woman in 61.57 minutes, while Plymouth Harriers’ Ami Peyton-Jones was third F40.

Tavistock AC’s Ben Neale finished sixth overall in a strong men’s race, which was won by Olympic steeplechaser Phil Norman, who clocked an impressive 49.57 minutes for the course. Neale came home in a quick 53.32 minutes, which beat his previous best set on the course last year.

Erme Valley Harriers’ David Engledew was first M65, with his club colleague Simon Fitze finishing third M45.

Meanwhile, City of Plymouth’s David Robinson finished as runner-up in the Cornish Marathon at the weekend.

Robinson clocked 2:56.04 for the tough event organised by East Cornwall Harriers, with Truro’s Steve Reynolds winning in 2:42.59.

East Cornwall’s Simon Morse was fifth overall and second M35, while team-mate Patrick Mann was first M60 and Susie Hooke was first F40.
