PLYMOUTH Argyle and Marine Academy Plymouth both reached the FA Cup second round with comfortable victories on Sunday.
National League side Argyle produced a strong second half to beat struggling South West Premier Division outfit Poole Town 6-0 at Bolitho Park.
The Pilgrims had taken a seventh-minute lead thanks to a fine volley from Charlotte Whitmore, but they were frustrated for the rest of the first half.
They had a number of good chances to increase their lead but were unable to take them.
However, they did find a clinical edge after the break, scoring five goals in the second 45 minutes.
Substitute Ella Stephens forced an own goal in the 62nd minute and then almost from the restart, fellow substitute Fern Orchard slotted home Argyle’s third.
A fourth goal quickly followed courtesy of Caitlin Smith, who forced the ball home after a goal-mouth scramble.
Imy Crawford made it five in the 82nd minute before Orchard scored her second after tapping in a ball from Stephens.
Marine Academy progressed to the second round proper by beating Hampshire side Bursledon 4-0 away.
Marine got off to a great start with Abbie Woodward rounding the goalkeeper and firing in after just eight minutes.
It got better for the Plymouth side as Beth Overton made it 2-0 in the 20th minute and Cameron Morison then added a third nine minutes later.
After that Bursledon frustrated Marine a bit but a fourth goal finally came in the 70th minute when Overton bagged her second from the edge of the box.
But Saltash United were unable to pull off a major shock and beat high flying National League Division One side AFC Bournemouth at Kimberley Stadium on Sunday.
The Ashes did battle hard and defended really well in the first half against their higher league opponents, but eventually were beaten 6-0 by a classy Bournemouth outfit.
The Cherries had to wait until the 22nd minute to take the lead when Molly Barron-Clark scored from a corner.
It looked like the Ashes might go in just 1-0 down at the break, but just before half-time they gave away a penalty, which Erin Bloomfield fired in.
Bournemouth always looked dangerous from corners and their next two goals came from them.
Bloomfield headed in her second of the match in the 57th minute before Amber Treweek netted after the visitors had taken a short corner that caught Saltash out.
Saltash really defended hard, but Bournemouth did score twice in the final five minutes courtesy of Katie James and Alisha Buckingham.
In the Devon Women’s League South & West Division, leaders Horrabridge Rangers gained revenge for their League Cup exit on penalties the week before by Elm United by beating them 3-1 away.
Elm took the lead on Sunday courtesy of Charlotte Rex, but Leah Parnell-Moses equalised before half-time and then Kirsty Jones and Vicky Jasper netted further goals in the second half to win them the match.
Lakeside Athletic enjoyed a 5-0 home win over The Victory Pub on Sunday thanks to goals from Angel Goucher (2), Lily Daw, Leah Johnson and Abigail Cleaver.
Olivia Jones and Leni Leach scored goals from Signal Box as they drew 2-2 at home with Plainmoor, while Tavistock were beaten 9-1 at home by Paignton Villa.
In the Cornwall Women’s League Cup, Saltash Borough were far too strong for Biscovery, winning 18-0 away.
Rachel Finch netted six times for Borough, who also had Lucy Bothwick and Stacey Gill bagging hat-tricks. Abby Shapland got two goals, while Lauren Beveridge, Chloe Moore, Ella Stevens and Lucy Johsnon were also on the scoresheet.
