MARINE Academy Plymouth, Saltash United and Saltash Borough all progressed in the Women’s FA Cup at the weekend.
Marine Academy enjoyed a convincing 6-0 home win over fellow Devon side Feniton at Manadon on Sunday, with Amy Pridham bagging a second-half hat-trick.
Marine took a bit of time to get going but they eventually took the lead in the 25th minute when Abbie Woodward scored after a pin-point cross by Carmen Morison, who was a constant threat all game.
And the home side made it 2-0 before half-time when Morison scored a stunning individual effort. She picked the ball up in her own half and just ran away from the Feniton defence before beating the goalkeeper at the near post.
Pridham got her first goal 11 minutes into the second half before Woodward added a second from long-range to make it 4-0.
Pridham finished the tie off with two tap-ins from close range within the space of two minutes.
Saltash United also progressed to the third round qualifying stage after seeing off Teignmouth 5-1 at Kimberley Stadium on Sunday.
Nicola Champion netted a hat-trick for the Ashes, to go alongside goals from player-of-the-match Olivia Ramsey and Katelyn Bell.
Their town neighbours Saltash Borough also hit five goals to progress in the top cup competition.
They beat Cornish rivals Redruth United 5-0 in heavy rain at Saltmill.
Summer signing Rachel Finch bagged a hat-trick for Borough, who also had captain Lucy Borthwick and Sophie Perrin on target.
However, there was disappointment for Plympton, who went down 5-2 away at higher league Torquay United.
Plympton twice took the lead in the first half with two goals from Isabelle Firth, but the Gulls get hitting back and they went 3-2 in front at the break. The home side then scored two more in the second period. Tee Kaptein scored three of Torquay’s goals, while Kate Kane and Emily Elliott netted their others.
In league football, there was frustration for Plymouth Argyle as they went down 2-1 away at Billericay Town in the FA National League Southern Premier Division.
Valentine Pursey had fired the Essex side ahead after just three minutes, but Ellie Sara equalised in the 40th minute for the Pilgrims.
However, on the stroke of half-time Breon Grant netted Billericay’s second and neither side could add any further goals after the interval.
The defeat sees Argyle drop in the relegation zone.
In the Devon Women’s League South & West Division, Elm United enjoyed a 4-2 away victory at Plainmoor thanks to goals from Mandy Cox, Charlotte Rex, Crystal-Mae Pollock and Abi Snell.
At the Parkway, Lakeside Athletic triumphed 15-0 at home against Tavistock. Angel Goucher netted four for Lakeside, with Lily Daw bagging a hat-trick, Lexie Hembry got two, while Jamine Tingley, Lily Vessey, Ruby Woodwood, Shanice Kelly and Megan Hulse were also on target.
Signal Box were beaten 3-2 at home by Shaldon Villa, with Addy Hitt and Phoebe White scoring for the Weston Mill side.
The match between Horrabridge Rangers and SB Oak Villa was postponed just before kick-off after a torrential downpour left the pitch unplayable, while the match between The Victory Pub and Paignton Villa at Devonport High School was abandoned on 65 minutes when Victory were leading 4-3 due to a serious injury to one of the home players.
