PLYMPTON, Saltash United and Saltash Borough all progressed in the Women’s FA Cup on Sunday.
Plympton beat Bideford 6-0 at Bull Point in their first round qualifying match, with Dionne Igalawuye scoring a stunning hat-trick.
After having a number of early chances, Igalawuye gave her side the lead in the 11th with a long-range effort.
She then doubled Plympton’s lead 10 minutes before half-time with another fine strike.
Her hat-trick came 21 minutes into the second period, by which point Bideford were down to 10 players due to injury.
Isabelle Firth then scored two good goals within the space of two minutes to make it 5-0 before Bideford were reduced to nine after they had a player sent off.
Firth was just denied a hat-trick by the thickness of the post before Bella Brown-Tunnell wrapped up the scoring for the home team four minutes from time.
Plympton will now face Torquay United away in the second qualifying round.
Goalkeeper Konnie Kleczkowski proved to be Saltash United’s hero as they beat Sticker on penalties.
The Ashes had gone 2-0 down, but Jade Bryan pulled a goal back to set up a thrilling ending.
With time almost up, Saltash won a corner and threw everyone up, including goalkeeper Kleczkowski, who headed into the top corner of the net to level the match and take it to spot-kicks.
The Ashes won 4-2 on penalties, with Kleczkowski stepping up to score the final spot-kick.
Saltash United will now host Teignmouth in the next round.
Their neighbours Saltash Borough have joined them in the second round qualifying after they beat RNAS Culdrose 4-0 away from home.
Rachel Finch, Molly Gill, Lucy Borthwick and Abby Shapland scored Borough’s goals. They will now host Redruth United in the next round.
Marine Academy Plymouth will join in at the second round qualifying stage and they will host Feniton.
Marine Academy started their South West Premier Division season on Sunday with a convincing 7-0 home victory over Pucklechurch at Manadon.
Carmen Morison scored a hat-trick for the home side, with captain Sam Drewery bagging two and Abbie Woodward and Libby Williams also netting.
It was a good weekend for the region’s women’s teams with Plymouth Argyle beating Milton Keynes Dons 5-1 away to secure their first National League Southern Premier Division win of the season.
The Pilgrims led 2-0 at half-time at Stadium MK with Charlotte Whitmore and Lulu Jarvis netting in the opening 45 minutes.
After the break, the Dons pulled one back, but Argyle were always in command and Kathryn Dickson, Whitmore and Taya Pomfret added further goals for a confidence-boosting away victory.
After losing their opening two league games against Cheltenham Town and Oxford United, the Pilgrims returned to winning ways in mid-week with a 4-2 home League Cup win over Bridgwater United.
