Plymouth Combination ready for Sharks test at Brickfields

THE Plymouth Combination representative side will be in action again at Brickfields on Saturday when they host the Torbay Sharks (3pm).

The Combination played the Plymouth Academicals at Albion’s ground last Friday, coming back from 19-0 down to win 33-26.

However, they will have a much-changed team out to play the Sharks, who beat them 34-31 at Newton Abbot last year.

“I think there’s only four players from last Friday,” said Combination team manager Shaun Bedford-Smith. “So, it’s basically going to be a completely different team.

“But there’s enough quality within the Combination to be able to do that.”

The Combination are able to welcome back some OPMs players, who missed the last fixture due to a tour. They are also set to include a number of the Plymouth students that played against them last week.

The Sharks tend to pull their players from the clubs in the south Devon area, like Newton Abbot, Torquay, Brixham, Teignmouth and Dartmouth.

“The Sharks always seem to manage to get a strong team out,” said Bedford-Smith. “So, I’m pretty sure we will be up against a decent side.”

The Combination are missing players from Saltash, who have their Cornwall Clubs’ Cup final on Saturday, while the Sharks are unable to pick any Kingsbridge players as they are in a Papa Johns Community Cup final.
