DEVONPORT Services kick-off their pre-season campaign tonight when they make the short trip across Kings Road to Brickfields to play Plymouth Albion (7.30pm).
It will be the first of two friendly games in three days for Services, who will take a different squad to Polson Bridge on Friday night to play Launceston.
“We are not at 100 per cent but we have managed to get two teams out as we also have a side going down to Launceston on Friday night,” said head coach Ben Russell.
“Playing Albion will be good test for us.
“They are not going to have a full strength National One side out – I think they have got a mixture of boys that played last year and some young boys that are coming in – but it will be a nice test.
“It’s a chance to see where we are at and it will give us some work-ons ahead of Wadebridge next weekend.”
He added: “They (Albion) have already played against Redruth but for us it is our first run-out. Our boys will be up against a few established National One players and you do want to see where you are at and they will find out. We will see how we get on.”
New faces Reuben Edwards, Harrison Coonick and Freddie Davies are set to start in the backs for Services against Albion, while fellow new signings Dan Goldstone and Ethan Millard on named on the bench.
Former Tavistock scrum-half Goldstone has joined from Wellington, while young forward Millard has signed from OPMs.
Services have also welcomed back Harrison Slade after a spell out of the game, but they have lost young full-back Billy Orchard, who has joined Albion.
“He has been picked up by them,” said Russell. “He went training with them and did really well.”
