GALLERY: Southcott and Dix impress at round six of the South West Cyclo-Cross League

CYCLO-CROSS returned to Newnham Park on Sunday for round six of the South West League.

Just two weeks previously, the Plympton venue had hosted round five of the league, which was combined with the regional championships.

But the course was completely different this time around, with Plymouth Corinthian CC hosting the event.

The previous race had been held on the bottom field, but Sunday’s event took place at the top end of Newnham Park and involved steep up and down hills, wood sections and plenty of twists and turns around the show-jumping course.

There was plenty of local interest and former Pilgrim Flyer Jack Southcott, who now represents Rotor Racing, won the main race by a minute-and-a-half.

Second-place overall went to Ewan Dix, who, like in the South West Championships, was first junior man. He managed to hold off Leo White by six seconds on Sunday.

Fourth place went to Magspeed’s Nick Blight, with Andrew Davenport fifth, M40 John Gregory sixth and Pilgrims Flyers’ Oliver Allen seventh overall and fifth in the senior section.

Travis Bramley, better known for road and gravel riding, made a rare appearance at cyclo-cross and he finished as seventh senior.

Mid-Devon veteran Catherine Kilburn was first woman overall, with Plymouth Corinthian’s Charlotte Turner second and Rosalind Willcombe third.

Lara Dix impressed again in the under-16 age group, finishing fourth overall and first girl. Max Standen took overall victory.

Dartmoor Velo had both the winners in the under-14 category courtesy of Freddie Day and Orla White.

James Allen and Freya Cudmore triumphed in the under-12 race, with Charlie Day and Bryony Medland claiming wins in the U10 category and Toby Heywood and Indie Skinner the under-eight victors.
