Chris Coumbe and Steve Brookshaw make a winning start as billiards league returns

Trophies being presented at Saltash Social Club following the 2021-22 season

THE Plymouth Billiards League has recently got underway with six players competing for two trophies this season.

The opening competition, played in memory of former league vice-chairman and player Roger Ayers, takes place over 15 weeks of action.

The Trevor Davies Cup follows in the new year over a period of 10 weeks, with both being played as a singles league format using handicaps.

The league sees three matches played every Monday night at the same venue. Saltash Social, Keyham Conservatives, Plympton Conservatives, Hyde Park, and Legends Lounge are the hosts during the season. All matches are first to 150 points.

Chris Coumbe and Steve Brookshaw have both got their campaigns off to a good start with two wins in the first two weeks, whilst John Wilde and Steve James have each picked up a point so far.

Dave Dickson, winner of the 2021 Roger Ayers competition, will be looking to defend his title. Dickson was also named as a league’s sporting player last season.

Billiards has a long history in Plymouth, with leagues being established in the city for over 100 years. This is the second season of a singles league format being played.
