GALLERY: Beaton and Prowse take victories as the Cornwood 10k returns

JOE BEATON was a comfortable winner of the Cornwood 10k as the race returned on Saturday evening for the first time since 2019.

The popular run could not be held in 2020 or 2021 due to the covid pandemic.

Beaton finished the tricky run that takes athletes around the villages of Cornwood and Lutton in 36 minutes and 16 seconds.

Second place went to Plymstock Road Runners’ Rich Shelley, who also claimed the first veteran prize. He clocked 37.38 minutes. Ronnie Haynes was third runner home in 37.48. Alex Peyton-Jones fourth and Ben Austin fifth. Erme Valley’s Charlie Milward was first under-18.

Kirsty Prowse convincingly won the women’s race in 45.22 minutes, with Torbay’s Chloe Weeks second and Ella Thurston third.

Plymouth Harriers’ Steve Hill was second male vet, with Pete Waumsley third.

The women’s vets prizes went to Janette Beaton, Catherine Shortman and Alison Engledew.

As well as the 10k there was also a 4k fun run that was won by City of Plymouth youngster Maddy Jones, who edged out Angus Harris and club colleague Bella May for overall victory
