GALLERY: Tamar Trotters’ Landers eases to victory in Magnificent 7 race

JACOB LANDERS provided Tamar Trotters with a home winner for their popular Magnificent 7 race on Sunday.

He stormed to victory in a time of 38.29 minutes, which was nearly three minutes ahead of his nearest rival.

Landers had also won the Saltash Half Marathon in May, which was another race organised by his club.

Second on Sunday was South West Road Runners’ Gwylym Gibson, who finished the seven-mile race in 41.02 minutes.

Truro’s Steve Reynolds, who was celebrating his birthday, was third in 41.21, with Tavistock Run Project’s Liam Nicholls fourth in 41.28 and Cornwall AC’s Ross Pascoe fifth in 41.48.

Cornwall AC’s masters star Emma Stepto continued her impressive record at the Magnificent 7 by winning the women’s race by more than three minutes. Stepto, who is now in the 50-54 age category, clocked 46.25 minutes to claim her ninth victory in the event. She is also the women’s course record holder.

Second women on Sunday was Truro’s Jo Temple, who finished in 49.45 minutes, with Hayle’s Melodie Manners third (51.43), Storm Plymouth’s Charlene Matthew fourth (53.19) and Teignbridge Trotters’ Susanna Goffe fifth (53.28).

The race, which was returning for the first time since 2019 due to covid pandemic, saw 227 finishers.

The event has been going since 1999 and takes runners from Saltash Rugby Club out on country roads to Elmgate and back around via Forder Lake. It is part of the Cornish Grand Prix Series.
