RUNNERS faced horrendous conditions as they battled one of the hardest off-road races in the region on Saturday.
The Burrator Horseshoe Run, which is now part of the Dartmoor Fell Series, normally takes place in scorching hot weather conditions.
But the 2022 race saw the heavens open as runners set off from Meavy village for the six-mile run out to Burrator Reservoir and up to the summit of Sheeps Tor and then Gutter Tor before returning to the start. By the time the athletes had reached Sheeps Tor the weather had worsened and they had to contend with driving rain and gale force winds, while thunder could also be heard in the distance.
The weather made it really tough for competitors, but there was still a good turnout for the event.
