ATHLETICS: Anderson claims British Masters title, while Neale sets new half marathon PB

CITY of Plymouth’s Simon Anderson added another masters title to his impressive collection at the weekend.

Anderson took victory in the M55 1,500m event at the British Masters Indoor Championships at Lee Valley.

The Plymouth athlete, who is now in his fourth year of the M55 category, clocked 4:43.70 to win by two seconds.

Anderson has previously won world titles in the M50 and M45 age groups. He is also a former European champion and has won numerous British medals.

Meanwhile, fellow City of Plymouth athlete Hannah Gellatly opened her season by finishing second overall and first under-20 in the hammer at the Nuneaton Winter Warm-up event with a throw of 44.65m.

On the road, Tavistock AC’s Ben Neale set a new half marathon personal best as he clocked 1:09.25 to finish third in the Bideford Half on Sunday.

Neale was only beaten by Bideford’s Ronnie Richmond and Exeter’s Simon Fox.

Plymouth Harriers’ Steve Fletcher also set a new PB and claimed a top 10 finish with a 1:13.15 run.

Plymstock Road Runners’ Graham Bale was first M55 with a 1:18.04 run, while Tavistock’s Andrew Houghton was second M75.
