City of Plymouth athletes open their indoor seasons, while Allen is first in Armada 3k run

A number of City of Plymouth athletes opened their indoor seasons at the weekend.

Tyler Johnson, who could have his eyes on trying to make Jersey’s Commonwealth Games squad, won the men’s 300m at the Lee Valley December Open.

Johnson clocked 35.48 seconds to win by more than half-a-second.

Club colleague Alex Wilson clocked 38.38 to come home first in heat two of the 300m.

Johnson also ran 7.15 and 7.19 seconds for two runs over the 60m distance.

Nicolas Maczugowski, who has just moved up into the under-17 age group, ran a new 60m PB time of 7.56 seconds. He showed good consistency as he other run on the same day was 7.58 seconds.

Plymouth University student Victor Zhang ran 7.55 for the 60m.

Adam Dingley, who has also just moved up to under-17 level, clocked a new 60m hurdles PB of 8.74 seconds. He also showed consistency as he ran 8.81 in his second race.

At the Manchester Indoor Open Meeting at Sportcity, Toby Clayden clocked two new PBs in the 60m flat and 60m hurdles. He clocked 7.29 seconds in the 60m flat and ran 8.96 over the hurdles.

Meanwhile, Tamar Trotters’ Finlay Allen came home first in December’s Armada Winter 3k Series run at Central Park.

Allen clocked 10.53 minutes, with Isaac Lamerton just two seconds behind.

Third place went to Tavistock Run Project’s Ally Peyton-Jones, who clocked 11.04. Scott Mansfield was fourth, Storm’s Daniel Westlake fifth and Plymstock’s veteran Graham Bale sixth.

University of Plymouth’s Ellie Robinson was first woman home in 12.02 minutes.

Erme Valley youngster Isabella Trowell was second in 12.18 and University of Plymouth’s Katrin Higginson was third in 12.31. Storm’s Charlene Matthews and Tavistock Run Project’s Ami Peyton-Jones were fourth and fifth.

The next Armada 3k Series event will take place on January 12.
