EXMOUTH’S Tom Merson claimed victory in the 2021 Britain’s Ocean City Half Marathon on Sunday.
Merson clocked 1:09.47 to finish nearly three minutes ahead of Bideford’s Jack Hutchens, who took second in 1:12.34.
Kent athlete Joe Hartley was third in 1:13.48, with South West Road Runners’ Tom Humphrey fourth (1:15.04) and Tavistock Run Project’s Liam Nicholls fifth (1:16.32).
City of Plymouth’s Victoria Weir made her half marathon debut on Sunday and finished second behind Cornish athlete Ruby Orchard.
Orchard won in 1:22.03, with Weir coming home in 1:23.19.
Cornish athletes Catherine O’Dwyer (1:23.33) and Emma Stepto (1:24.26) were third and fourth, respectively.
This year, the Plymouth Half Marathon was held at the same time as the Plymouth 10k and 5k events.
Callum Crawford won the 10k in 33.52 minutes, with Dan Alsop second (34.25) and Neil Adam third (35.08).
Jennifer Warner was first women home in 42.47 minutes, with Vicky Winzer second (44.16) and Becky Baker third (45.43).
There was an impressive run in the 5k by Erme Valley youngster Bella May, who was first women and fourth overall in 20.21. City of Plymouth’s Matha Wilson was second female in 21.46, with Olivia Hassell third in 23.17.
Richard Bond was the runaway winner of the men’s 5k in 16.56 minutes, with Ethan Philipson second in 20.09 and Plymstock’s Ian Lamerto third in 20.16.
