GALLERY: Region’s women’s teams continue their build up for the new season

PLYMOUTH Argyle and Marine Academy Plymouth continued their build up for the 2021-22 women’s football campaign with impressive pre-season wins on Sunday.

National League Southern Premier Division side Argyle beat Northern Premier outfit West Bromwich Albion 2-1 away.

The Pilgrims have been boosted by the return of Natasha Knapman, Becky Dandridge and Zoe Cunningham this summer, who bring valuable experience to their young squad.

Cunningham was on the scoresheet in the win against West Brom, which followed on from a 5-1 victory over Larkhall last weekend.

Argyle will start their league season on August 15 when they entertain old rivals Portsmouth away.

Meanwhile, South West Premier League side Marine Academy enjoyed a 7-1 away win at Bishops Lydeard on Sunday.

Former Plympton striker Sam Metters bagged four goals for Marine, who also added Sam Drewery (2) and Dionne Igalawuye  scoring.

Devon League side Signal Box Oak Villa took on the tough challenge of playing South West Premier League outfit Torquay United on Sunday at Weston Mill.

Although higher league Torquay, who have made a number of summer signings including former Marine Academy players Beth Everson and Jana Richards, won 12-1, Oak Villa will have taken a number of positives from the game, especially with their first half display. Captain Victoria Jasper scored Oak Villa’s goal before having to go off injured.
