GALLERY: Late Keen hat-trick is not enough for Saltash Essayons

YOUNGSTER Will Keen scored a late hat-trick for Saltash Essayons, but it was not enough to overcome Exeter Ravens in a rugby league friendly at Moorlands Lane.

The Ravens, who are the new development side of Southern Conference League outfit Devon Sharks, triumphed 46-34 in an entertaining fixture.

The Exeter side did include many players who have played in tier four this season, as well as number of Plymouth-based players like Tom Richards, Tom Worboys and Olie Whitefield.

Saltash, who have won their last two South West Division league games, did make a good start and went ahead with a try by Lewis Stuart, which Kieran Down converted.

But Exeter got on the mark four minutes later and then scored two more tries to take a 16-6 lead.

However, Saltash did pull a try back after Simon Nance went over the whitewash after the visitors had messed up a restart.

The Ravens were playing downhill second half and they turned up the pace to score five tries and go 46-10 ahead.

Ben Spear (2), Ben Cowley, Reece Hutchings, Wes Keywood, Tom Richards, Tom Close and Jack Carlisle scored their tries on the evening.

But in the final 10 minutes Saltash really came alive and they finished really strongly with Keen going over for three good tries, which Stuart converted.
