Saltash Essayons claim league double over Teignbridge Trojans

SALTASH Essayons claimed a league double over Teignbridge Trojans on Saturday with a 60-30 victory at Teignmouth in the South West RL Division.

The Essayons had narrowly beaten their south Devon rivals by just one score in a thriller at Moorlands Lane last month. In that match the Ashes got off to a slow start, but they came flying out of the blocks on Saturday to take a hold of the game in the first half.

Kieran Down was Saltash’s main man scoring an impressive 32 points, courtesy of a hat-trick of tries and 10 conversions.

There were two tries for Danny Snook, while Archie Fleming, Will Hunt, Ryan Wilson, Sam Snell and Max Frost also crossed the whitewash for the Essayons at Teignmouth.

The hosts did come back in the second half and managed to score five tries through Luke Williams (2), Gareth Walker, Ben Tharme and Ryan Wotton.

Saltash have won two of their opening three games. Their only defeat was against a strong Tarka Storm side in their first match of the campaign.

Next weekend there is a break from league rugby with Devon playing Cornwall at Redruth in the County of Origin representative fixture.

The Essayons are due to return to league action on July 16, when they host Cornish Rebels at Moorlands Lane.
