There were also top three finishes for Tavistock Run Project’s Ben Neale, City of Plymouth’s Holly Reid, Thomas Jones, and Plymouth Harriers’ Katy Hedgethorne.
Smart continued his form from the Exeter meeting a fortnight early by winning the under-17 boys’ race.
With his big rivals Flynn Jennings and Johnny Livingstone not competing, English Schools’ champion Smart won by nearly a minute-and-a-half. He battled through the giant water puddles, mud and bitterly cold conditions to clock 19.03 minutes, with Taunton’s Joe Porter second in 20.30 minutes. Tavistock’s Will Russell was sixth in the same race.
Hutchings also followed up on his success at Exeter by winning the under-11 race at Westward Ho!
Neale came third in the senior men’s race, where he was only beaten by Bideford’s Ronnie Richmond and Mark Jenkin.
Plymouth Harriers’ Johnny Gilby was fourth overall in the men’s race, with Tavistock Run Project’s Jordan Andrew sixth and his team-mate Chris Rimmer 10th.
City of Plymouth’s Stephen Burns was first over-55 athlete, just ahead of Tavistock’s Martin Exley Deane, while Tavistock’s Richard Drage was again the first over-60 finisher.
City of Plymouth’s Jones was third in the under-15 boys’ race for the second meet running. However, he is leading the series overall. Tavistock’s Ewan Dix was fourth in the under-15 race on Sunday, with team-mate Jacob Holland also making the top 10.
Plymouth Harriers’ Hedgethorne took third place in the senior women’s race behind Cornwall AC’s Heidi Tregenza and Taunton’s Alice Murray-Gourley.
Tavistock Run Project’s Rachel Malthouse was fourth, with Erme Valley’s Cleo Perry sixth and first F45. City of Plymouth’s Hannah Blair was eighth and Tavistock’s Jo Meek ninth.
In the under-17 women’s race that was run with the seniors, City of Plymouth’s Kate Phillips was fifth.
Plymouth’s Holly Reid came second in the under-13 race behind Georgina Clark, with Tavistock’s Matilda Riggott fifth, City of Plymouth’s Madeline Jones sixth and Tavistock’s Piper Haffenden 10th.
In the under-11 girls’ event, Tavistock’s Ellena Hess came sixth, with Nell Maguire ninth.
In the under-15 girls’ race Tavistock’s Charlotte Walker, Isabella Page and Kristyna Cade all finished in the top 10.
The next race in the series will be at Stove on February 10.
