Mount Kelly, Plymouth College and Devonport High win medals at nationals in London

MOUNT Kelly College, Plymouth College and Devonport High School for Girls were all medal winners at the 62nd English Schools’ Team Championships at the London Aquatics Centre.

Plymouth College won three titles and a bronze medal at the relay competition. They won the senior girls’ 4x50m freestyle crown, plus the senior boys’ 4x50m medley and freestyle gold medals. Their bronze medal came in the senior girls’ medley.

Mount Kelly College showed their strength in depth by medalling in nine of the 12 relay events. They won the intermediate girls’ 4x50m freestyle title in a record time, came second in the intermediate girls’ medley, the senior girls’ medley and the intermediate boys’ freestyle, while claiming bronzes in the junior girls’ freestyle, senior girls’ freestyle, senior boys’ medley, junior boys’ freestyle and senior boys’ freestyle.

Devonport High School for Girls impressed in the intermediate girls’ category, taking third place in both the freestyle and medley relays.

Ivybridge Community College and Plymouth High School for Girls also qualified and competed at the prestigious event in London.

Meanwhile, Plymouth Leander’s Adam Chillingworth was a medal winner at the BUCS Short Course Championships in Sheffield at the weekend.

Chillingworth took silver in the in the men’s 200m breaststroke. He was just edged out for gold by Great Britain Olympian Craig Benson. Scottish star Benson, competing for Stirling University, touched in 2:07.62, with Chillingham narrowly behind in 2:07.88.

Plymouth student Chillingham also came fifth in the men’s 100m breaststroke in 1:00.58.
