DEVONPORT Services’ women’s team made it a good weekend for the club by beating high-flying Exeter Athletic 27-5 at Stonehouse Creek on Sunday.
The victory followed on from the men’s first team overcoming Cleve 57-27 in South West One and their second team edging out reigning champions Okehampton II 29-27 away in Devon Merit Table Division One.
Devonport’s women’s side, who are in their second season in the league rugby, are unbeaten at home but are still waiting for a victory on their travels.
Exeter had arrived in Plymouth as the leaders of Women’s NC2 South West (West) but they were struggling for availability and Services’ strength in depth showed in the second half.
The first period was even with the teams going in level at 5-5. Sunneva Conye-Stacey had given Services an early lead but Exeter hit back on 30 minutes.
However, the second half totally belonged to Devonport who ran in four more tries courtesy of two from debutant Bronte Kemp and further scores from Kerry Lynch and Tina Martin, with Sam Alderson kicking a brilliant conversion from the touchline.
