Plymouth Harriers looking forward to hosting new-look trail race at Newnham Park

PLYMOUTH Harriers are looking forward to hosting a new off-road race in September.

For years the city club hosted the popular Six Moor Miles race at Yelverton, but this year it became uneconomical to run due to rising costs required from Dartmoor National Park and the landowner.

At the same time, the Armada Athletics Network had decided that 2018 would be the last time they would organise the Armada Autumn Trail at Newnham Park. So Plymouth Harriers decided to step in and take over that event in Plympton

“It made perfect sense for the Harriers to take on another off road race and continue it with some minor changes,” said race director Hollie Baxter.

The new-look race will be called Tory Brook Trails. It is named after the waterway that runs through Newnham Park, which athletes have to cross.

The single lap main race will also now be a 10k rather than seven miles, while they have also added a two-wave 2k race for people who want to challenge themselves with two runs and two medals and for 4-16 year-olds as a fun run.

The event, which will be helping to raise money for the Woodside Animal Sanctuary, will be held on Saturday, September 21, with the 2k race starting at 3.15pm and the 10k run at 4pm.
