PLYMOUTH Harriers’ Sam Yearling timed his finish perfectly to take victory in the annual Muddy Duck 10k on Saturday.
Teenager Yearling sat on the shoulder of Ben Morrish and Ben Austin for much of the race before pulling away in the closing stages to add another title to his growing collection.
Yearling finished the multi-terrain run, which involves a number of water crossings in Plymstock’s Radford Park, in 37.50 minutes.
Last year’s winner Morrish took second in 38.03, with Austin third for a second year running in 38.12. There was a bit of a gap then to fourth-placed James Bright of Tamar Trotters, who finished in 39.42. Storm’s Peter Waumsley was fifth and first over-45.
Tamar Trotters’ Bex Ezra was first women in 41.25, with Plymstock Road Runners’ Carla Haines second in 42.53 and Storm’s Lauren Knox third in 46.37.
More than 200 runners finished the run, which is organised by Plymstock Road Runners and starts and finishes at Oreston Academy School.
