Devonport Services add Croatia sevens player Bozic to their ranks

DEVONPORT Services have increased their back options even further with the signing of Croatia international sevens player Dino Bozic.

The 21-year-old fly-half/full-back, who has represented Devon Under-20s and played for Teignmouth, Newton Abbot and Tiverton, joins fellow backs Tom Goodman, Corey Jamieson, Jake Inglis and Alex Mawdsley in signing for South West One side Services this summer.

Former Exeter College student Bozic is going to be studying at Marjon University and joining their Plymouth Albion-linked rugby academy. He did play for Albion’s development team last season and has also guested for Exeter Chiefs Academy side.

“When I’ve seen him play he does look wonderful on the ball – very dynamic – and that’s what we want,” said Services coach Mike Lewis. “He’s agile and is someone who can beat people.

“He’s very committed and keen and even though he’s only 21 he is experienced and played for his country.”

Lewis feels having more options will only benefit Services, who are building for their second season in South West One.

“We have got some great players but most have jobs and family commitments and we have to make sure when we have got players out that we have players of the same standard that can come in,” said Lewis.

Bozic, who has played in a friendly for the full 15-a-side Croatia team as well as playing sevens and under-18s for them, is relishing joining Services and hopefully helping them challenge towards the top of the league.

“I am looking forward to getting a chance to represent Devonport in the coming season and all the challenges that is going to bring,” he said.

“Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to go down to the club and meet all the players and staff yet because of the sevens season, but I am really looking forward to meeting everyone and hopefully help the club to push for the promotion in the upcoming season.”

Meanwhile, Services have confirmed their pre-season fixtures.

They will start with their annual 10s evening at the Rectory on Friday, July 26 where they will play Liskeard-Looe and Tamar Saracens.

Services will kick-off their 15-a-side fixtures with a home match against South West Premier side Brixham on Friday, August 9.

They will then host Cornwall/Devon League outfit Plymstock Albion Oaks on Thursday, August 22 before visiting Saltash on Friday, August 30.
