PLYMOUTH Argyle Ladies head back to Coventry United on Sunday for an FA Cup second round cup tie just seven days after being on the end of a 9-1 mauling in a National League Southern Division League match.
The Pilgrims returned to training this week in the knowledge that they had received a wake-up call.
After the match joint manager Dave Leonard said: “We don’t become a bad team overnight.”
Argyle management duo Leonard and Trevor Rodd were tight lipped about the performance and have been keen to keep their talking to the players behind closed doors at training.
One of the things they have had to resolve was individual errors as four of the five first half goals were easily preventable. Another factor was the poor playing surface which seemed to affect Argyle’s neat passing game.
Coventry adapted to the conditions much better which seemed to unsettle the Greens, who found themselves 3-0 down inside the opening eleven minutes.
Argyle have not named their squad but it is believed to be unchanged from last week. There is also the added bonus of the winners picking up £900.
The Pilgrims had a great run last season in the FA Cup before going down narrowly 3-2 against Leicester City and will need to replicate that form at Coventry.
Argyle squad: Lindsay Rogers, Darcy Hepworth, Kate Middleton, Becca Wakley, Ebony Dover, Panagiota Papaioannou, Steph Beck, Zoe Cunningham, Becky Dandridge, Mollie Taylor, Helen Bleazard, Amber Pollock, Kayley Lane, Ebony Dover.
Argyle’s development team currently head the South West League Western Division and will face the only team to beat them this season, local rivals Plympton on Sunday. The match is at the Salt Mill, Saltash with a 2pm kick-off.
Argyle lost 3-2 to Plympton earlier in the season. Plympton will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the season when they were beaten 4-3 last week by Bude Town.
The Pilgrims are hoping to have a full squad of players to select from. This includes American Rachel Heron, whose full début was put on hold last week after the game at Exeter & Tedburn Rangers was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
Argyle development squad: Sarah Prior, Sally Salter, Shania Fenlon, Gabi Alphous, Kiara Robins, Jodie Randall, Alex Hugh, Hannah Brock, Nicola Champion, Maya Ridge, Rachel Javan, Becky Parkyn, Tamsin Medd-Gill, Kelly Vinnicombe, Faye Ivall, Rachel Heron.
